Reputable Boiler Engineer? Do your checks!
Recent reports show that the British public are spending £100 million a year to rectify jobs performed by illegal gas engineers, which are putting their homes and families in immediate danger.
Following an investigation by Gas Safe Register, one in five homes were found to be ‘immediately dangerous’, with appliances required to be disconnected straight away to ensure their safety. In all cases, the work had been completed by an illegal engineer.
With recommendation to service your boiler annually, and an increasing number of these illegal engineers setting up across the UK, it is no surprise that more and more people across the country are falling victim to this crime.
So what checks can you be doing to ensure that your boiler engineer is reputable?
Gas Safe Register
Always use an engineer who is on the Gas Safe Register to fit, fix and service your boiler. The Gas Safe Register is the official gas registration body for the UK, and all central heating engineers are required to be Gas Safe Register-accredited.
You can check that your engineer is registered by visiting www.gassaferegister.co.uk. But beware! Just because an engineer is qualified to install a gas boiler, it doesn’t mean that they are automatically qualified to install a gas fire.
Ask to see the Gas Safe Register ID card upon your engineer’s arrival to your property; it’s the only way that you can guarantee that your engineer is legally allowed to carry out the work they intend to do in your home.
Here at Boiler Servicing 24-7, we pride ourselves on being Gas Safe Registered.
